John Potter – Disaster Relief Fund

Grand Worthy President John Potter's special project for the 2007-2008 year is to develop and fund a first response program for national disaster situations in Canada and the United States. This fund has been accepted as an official charity of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Eagles Disaster Relief Fund Truck

The fund includes a fleet of semi trailers throughout the U.S. and Canada equipped with basic emergency needs — water, first aid supplies, food, etc. for distribution at the emergency site. The trailers will be fully funded and managed by Eagle Members, with semi tractors being provided by Eagle member owner-operators, commercial donation or rental tractors as necessary.

All semi trailers are clearly marked The Fraternal Order of Eagles Disaster Relief Fund and a network of member volunteer commercial drivers and service volunteers have been established to support in the response of a national disaster.

The team(s) closest to the disaster site is charged with bringing the fully stocked trailer to the disaster site and distributing the items available for victims and others in need. Long term plans indicate trailers in every state and province, stocked and ready for distribution as needed.

Members can support the program through the following ways:

  • Fundraising at the local aerie and auxiliary
  • Volunteering to participate in the local Emergency Management Operations as a representative of the Fraternal Order of Eagles
  • Volunteer to be a driver (current CDL required)
  • Volunteer as a member of the distribution group
  • Encourage a friend to join the program

Checks supporting the program should be made to Eagle Charity Foundation and earmarked in the memo section as GWP Project or Disaster Relief Fund and sent to the Grand Aerie. For more information contact disasterrelieffund@foe.com or your nearest regional committee member.

From the Prez

It’s been a busy time again. The backyard BBQ, the Family Picnic and everyone going all over on vacation and family get-togethers as well as the fairs. The BBQ was a great time again, the food was unbelievable. A great big thank you to everyone that came and helped and everyone who came for the meal. The picnic was a nice night and also everyone had a great time. I know the summer went by fast and I hope everyone had a great one. Let’s remeber that school is starting so lets be careful and watch out for the kids.

Scott Muzzy.

Hi Everyone   Time for another newsletter, it seems like I just sent one out yesterday, just shows you how time flies by. Well the Schools are going to be starting once again and so the children will be going across the street every which way, so keep you eyes and ears open for them, because we don't want anything to happen to them, they are our future, hopefully they will become our new Eagle members.
We had our 2nd annual Back Yard Bar-B-Q and I have to admit it was a complete success.  We served a lot of people with most of them not waiting more then a few minutes. I don't have the exact count, but maybe the word will get out and everyone will know. A BIG Thank You goes out to all who volunteered their services to make this a complete success.  Thank you again.
We are very busy at the Eagles with all the activities going on including Weddings, Birthdays, or just plain Parties. Call our Mgr. Ken and line something up for whatever you want to call it, but don't wait to long or
you may not get the date you want. I hope you have a nice rest of the summer and drive careful to where ever you go and return home safely.
Remember to pay your dues on time or even ahead of time and save the cost for the club from sending you a card. That is all for this letter, more next time.
Your Secy Emil
